Kazan is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is the sixth most populuous cities in Russia. Kazan lies at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers in the European Part of the country.
In 2009 the city was chosen as the ¨Sports capital of Russia¨, and it is still referred to as such, as it hosted a large number of significant events like the 2013 Summer Universiade, 2014 World Fencing Championships, 2015 World Aquatics Championship, and is one of the host cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
